The backstory, my father stopped in at his local dealership over the weekend. While there a salesman caught him drooling over an '09 SE Ultra. With the economic conditions the dealership is having trouble moving bikes. This particular Ultra has been sitting on the floor for over a month, and the dealer seems willing to bend over backwards to move it out the door. Without even discussing trade in values, my father walked out of the store with numbers that have him seriously contemplating a move back up to an Ultra. Now is where my problem comes in. Given my fathers generous nature, he called me and asked if I was interested in moving to a larger bike platform. He offered to swap his 100th Anniversary Road King for my '06 FXDBI, letting me move up to a larger bike platform. The dyna would be traded in his deal for the Ultra.

I have to say that I love my bike. It still needs some work, but my focus has been on lining up mods not shopping for a new ride. That said, a 100th Anniversary Road King in gunmetal blue, with interior wiring, Kuryakyn Panacea LEDs, Mustang seat with pillion, rear rack, etc. It's a tempting offer.....
Hey man, its your DAD. How many of those do you get? Bikes; they are a dime a dozen. Help him out, you owe him.

Hmmm.... here I expected the dyna crowd to talk be back from the edge. The idea of stripping my ride back to stock, selling my upgrades, and using that money to tweak the Road King has crossed my mind more than once. Although, truthfully I think my kuryakyn panacea setup would likely end up on mom's sporty before they made it onto ebay.

As far as helping dad out, his bike is still worth more than mine, this is more a case of him trying to help me out if I wanted to move to a touring bike. Well, that and he's trying to provide himself with extra justification to drop the money on a new bike.

I guess I'll keep pondering and see if he brings it up again. Hard to tell if he was serious or just doing some wishful thinking....

Okay, I would try to advise you to keep your Dyna. I love my Fat Bob. . . I dig Road Kings, but I'd not part with my Bob.

There you go, thats the question you need to answer.
Do you ride alot of highway? 2up?
need bags?

Lots of questions, but only you can decide if you want it.

It should be easy enough, since its your fathers, couldn't you borrow it for a week or 2 to decide?

I think it depends on the type of riding you do...IMHO, I think your dad's offering you a hell of a deal...you can always strip down the RK for when city riding, but still have a bike for comfortable touring when needed.

I ride probably 95% city and the SB is perfect for me. Later on, when I have more money and time for taking some longer rides, I'd like to get a Street Glide and keep my SB for having fun on the city streets.

Like others have said, it's all a matter of what kind of riding you do.

Why not have Dad trade the RK in for the SE Ultra? Then wait a few years and ask Dad if the offer to trade is still on the table. heheheh

Like most have said what are you riding going to be. You will not be carving canyon roads on a Road King for sure.
