Use a new blade, put some duct tape around one end and go at it from the underside of the bike.
The key is patience. Took me a good half hour or so to get through mine.
Worth it in the end though.
If I had owned a dremel at the time I probably would have gone that route, but it's a pretty tight fit in between the cases anyway.
Wouldn't consider the sawzall, to much chance of it slipping and the blade dinging stuff up.
You guys are crazy, I'm not hacking at anything on my bike but I do plan on taking mine out. I'm going to take the inter primary off and do it the correct way plus I want to go to the chrome inter anyways.
Any idea if the 05 fxdwg inter will work on my 05 sg? Same motor but without the hole for the shaft correct?
''what about replacing the stock shift rod with a type of jagg edged band saw blade.''
Opps sorry for the brain fart ''blade shift rod'' haha shift rod.. Do any of you guys think that a jagged blade such as a sawzall, bandsaw or hacksaw type blade be rigid enough to work as a shift LINKAGE ? I think a sized copper/crome or painted jagged blade for a shift Linkage would look "Sharp" haha. O ya to stay on subject i think cutting the rod would be a pita.

My 2 cent, Donnie
So in the end, your "correct way" takes you how much time and effort?
It's a steel rod man, not a chrome doo-dad to make your bike more blingy.
