There is a washer that is 3M taped to the fender at the front fender strut bolt, there is no way to compress the fender enough (as the so called instructions state) to drop the rack down, The clearances basically don't exist! So, does anyone remember removing those washers from both sides before dropping the rack in? Again, the instructions mention nothing about removing those washers!
I've had my rear fender off a dozen times in the last few months but I have never installed the luggage rack in question.
What I can say is if you need to take the washers off that are glued on I used a grease and wax remover made by Duplicolor part #CM541 available at auto parts stores. Just applied it with a cloth and the washers and residue were gone in less than a minute.
To install my rack I used a long bolt with a threaded brass block that I use to compress brake calipars on my car. I wedged it between the rack and cranked it open with my wrench. Put it in place then backed off the bolt. It was a headache and scary around the paint.
Good luck,
Tim

STEP#9 Remove the spacers (1) from the fender.......... Right there in black and white, back side Lt top of instructions.
The washers go between the rack and the frame rail and the rack is flush to the fender. My frame rails opened up when I loosened the fender bolts up and did not have to even "squeeze the fender".

You would think the washer would go back on the fender side as to not trash the fender with the entire rail of the rack.
