'06 Low Rider. A lot of '06 Dyna's have had the stator come apoart. The stator on the 06's was held together by 4 screws. The replacement stator and the stator in the 07's are welded where the screws were. Mine came apart at 22,000 mi., 10 days before the warranty ran out. It is something I would definitely check the VIN with a dealer to see if it has been replaced. If not, it's a pretty expensive job at the dealer.
Also, the new stator will generate sufficient voltage at idle where the old stator didn't generate 14 volts until about 2500 rpms.

arky, have someone knowledgeable (and you trust them) look it over.

There are some issues, easily corrected for the most part.
It's only money right??

I think you will find the most prominent being:
  • Inner Primary Bearing Failure
  • Stator Destruction
  • Front Isolator (Motor Mount) failure or design flaws
Don't forget the Neutral Safety Recall John.

Most all have already been addressed.

Was it you that bought used and later had the issue addressed??

As to the Inner Primary Bearing Failure - rare

Stator Destruction - rare, but deadly.

Front Isolator (Motor Mount) failure or design flaws - this one is a for sure,
and I don't think it is the 006s alone.

Although I don't have an 06, personally I thought the 88 was the better way to go after test riding both. The insurance was significantly cheaper, and I have come to the realization that no stock Dyna, be it 88 or 96, will be "fast", that is if you've ever owned a truly "fast" bike, and that's just fine with me. The 88 is a tried and true motor with plenty of power to move you and yours, but neither it, or the 96, can be considered fast by modern motorcycling standards. 6 speed 88 would be a nice combo, IMO.

Here's some research Mud did a while back:

gear............06.............08

1st............9.876............9.312
2nd............6.810............6.421
3rd............5.064............4.774
4th............4.164............3.926
5th............3.477............3.279
6th............2.960............2.790

The 06 does run cooler but it's not a stroked motor like the 96. And yes if you want to change pipes etc. with the 07 and up...you do need the race tuner or equivelent to manage the fuel.

Default 06 bob

The 88" motor does run cooler than the 96". The gearing on the 06 is slightly lower than the 07. The 07 has better torque numbers from the moco, but that is easily fixed. LOL

I experienced,
-stator/rotor issue
-fuel pump went out, just my luck not really an issue though
-IPB was fine, but I changed it when apart
-fly wheels scissored bad
-gearing sucks in my opinion (fixed that)

On the upside, it's a dyna & I can fix & know everything about my scoot!
