Default Triple Tree Removal

Does anyone know what size wrench / socket is required to remove the top steering head nut on a 07 street bob? Trying to minimize trips to the store. I measured it at 1 1/2 in. but no one carries anything that large in stock. Just checking before I go ordering.

I may be blind but it sure would be nice if HD published the nut / bolt sizes for each bike.
Maybe next to the torque values in the service manual. Just an idea. Please let me know if anyone has seen such a product.

It's 1 1/2 in on my '06 Super Glide. I imagine it's the same on yours. For the socket, check out Sears. I got a 5 piece socket set from them on sale for $19.99. The biggest socket is 1 1/2". Check this part number: 934572

Here's the link:

I found a five piece set of 1/2" drive sockets from 1" - 1 1/2" at Sears half price for $19.95.

The steering stem nut is 1 1/2". If you have a thin washer which has a bent on one edge, they have a new style washer available now. This new washer was listed in a service bulletin for the front end clunk experience by many of the 06 and later bikes. When you do the trees, get the new washer. The service bulletin is included below. With the new washer, come new torque values.

Yup, that's why I had to get the the socket, so I could change that damn washer. It fixed the klunk though...Could have also had something to do with the higher torque value...

So, there is a problem with steering and you get to pay for the fix instead of them issuing a recall? How does that happen?

I found a trailer hitch box end combination at Wal Mart for around $10 that fit mine perfectly. It's in the trailer hitch section of the automotive section.

I picked mine up at sears. You'll want a socket so you can torque it down
