I just got the Sears "yellow" jack. I also got the H-D adapters - can they be made stronger? In regards to the 2x4's, how are they used? Are they laid flat across the jack's lifting area?

A hot garage will accelerate the seperation process of the adapters. Do not ask how I know.
Thanks for the public service announcement. I freakin' hate those damn adapters, but unfortunately use them. I'm sweating bullets every time I lift the bike. I strap it down and it sets my mind a little more at ease.
Here's a pic with my Wide Glide sitting on a J&S Jack. The jack support rails are 17" wide overall and 13" wide inside the rails. They are pitbull's biggest competition. The pitbull has a longer base and raises up to 25". The J&S raises up to 18" and is a bit cheaper. Either one is a top shelf jack.
How wide are the rails on the sears red and yellow?
I second the endorsement for the J&S Jack. It went under my LowRider with no adapters and not having to upright the bike to slide it under. The bike feels very stable even at its highest setting although I probably should use straps just to be sure. I think they have a group buy for HDForum. I bought mine before the group buy but don't regret the price. I bought a Sears Jack (red) and took it back after one try and then ordered the J&S. The people at J&S were great to deal with and it was less than the PitBull model. I use it often and will need it again soon to install my True-Track (bought yesterday under the HDForum group buy).
