I did 16's with just my tools, and a cold beer. No service manual although I did make reference to the site once or twice for clarification on some things.

The biggest advise I can give you is to make a good diagram of the wire connectors located within the backbone, underneath the tank.

Also, as a tip...use one of the throttle cables to pull the wires through the bars when internally wiring. They're stiff but flexible enough to make the curves. Just take your time. It's very easy, just a little time consuming. Use some electrical tape tightly wrapped to secure wires to cable so you can fish them through. Don't bundle it up too much. The more tape, the more of a pain in the *** it will be to pull the wires through.

Since I had a 1 or 2 month old in the house, it took me a few days because I would work on it while the princess was sleeping. An hour here...an hour there.

I had no problem removing the old grips. I did not have to cut them off. They slid off without a problem. The new grips went on without a problem at all. Kury ISO grips. All I did was clean the control area of the bars with some alcohol (isopropyl, not tequilla lol) before applying the grip glue that is supplied. When doing the grips, plan placement very well. Once you get the glue on the bars and the grip in place you have about 3 seconds before it sets up and they're never moving again. Also, pick up a scuff pad. Scuff the chrome before applying the grip glue.

Also, before you do the swap, buy a new clutch cover gasket. You will need it. about $8 at the dealer. Do not try to reuse the old gaasket. It doesn't work. I tried. Had a very slight drip until I redid it.

Other than that, enjoy it. It's fun to wrench.
