Problem with '96 Super Glide
When you start it, try to push off the Enrichener/choke as soon as possible, even if you need to hold up idle (slightly faster idle) with the throttle lock screw, to warm her up.
That enrichener can foul plugs fast, your carb probably has had had the idle/mix re-adjusted from stock setting. So use less Enrichener.
I only use Champion RN12YC Spark Plugs (equal to HD5R6A plugs) in my Evos, IMO run better, cost less, & most any parts store has them in stock...
PS: Be careful not to rev it up while cold. That can & often does cause base gaskets to start to leak..Need to let her warm up good..
This is an Important EVO thing..
And you really should check yer air filter (as mentioned), Remove it, hold it up to the sky /light & if you can see light thru it all around. It's Ok.

Thanks.
If Ur just starting it & only letting it idle there. The plugs never get a chance to clean-themselves.
Leaking or weeping base gasket(s)
What would be the symptoms for this? No differtence in bike performance. Is there any way to check this? Yes, look all around at where the cylinders attach to the motor case, that is where the base gaskets are & if you see no leaking or wetness (weeping) you are ok..
Will do. Cool..
Thanks. Ur welcome
Actually, not too long after changing the plugs, I found that as soon as I would crank the bike and drive off, it would actually start backfiring (very loud!) until the bike warmed up/choke was pushed in.
Turns out that since I have changed the plugs and ride the bike relatively often, the choke doesn't have to stay out as long as it used to. It used to be where you'd have to leave the choke out for a mile or two, now as soon as I crank the bike I can immediately push the choke half way in and it will idle fine without turning off. Then I can drive a little way down the street and push the choke all the way in and it is fine.
Thanks for the help everyone!
