I know of several forum members who have recently (some not so recent) removed their FXD Super Glides' original fuel tanks and replaced with FXDB Street Bob or FXDL Low Rider fuel tanks.
My question is: how much did you pay for your replacement tank?
A secondary, related question: what condition was the tank? (I.e., did you do any restorative body work?)
Feel free to PM if you want to keep the info private, I'm just trying to get a feel for a reasonable amount of bread to part with ....
I know new from Zanotti or Chicago HD it's just under $600 ... seen some very good used condition ones going for around 350 - 450 on fleabay ... just trying to collect some more data points. Thanks!
I got mine on fleabay for $256.00. That included shipping. I also got the gas cap and fuel gauge on fleabay. Screws and console cover and gaskets I bought from Zanotti's. Tank was in great shape but wrong color took my time and bought fenders off fleabay. Just take your time deals show up.
I found mine on craigslist for $250 with front and rear fenders. They were perfect take offs from an '08 sb. the people had HD custom tins put on before delivery. Total otd for the whole thing was $800. I posted all the other prices for everything but tank after I did it. Both HD retail and Zanotti's price. I had no cost for paint or body work as it was already vivid black like my bike.
Not exactly what you're looking for - but another reference point - I paid just over $400 shipped for a perfect take off wide glide paint set (ebay). Seemed like a great deal at the time - but need to probably almost double that for the entire conversion.
I think $350 is probably pretty good for just the tank .... the fenders don't seem to fetch much by themselves.
