$315? You can get a Digital Guard Dawg for half that.

Unless your thief carries a spare relay, he's not starting the bike.

The key lock and good insurance is enough for me. I just think the probability rises of having problems with more electrical goodies on a bike or a car (ask Mercedes owners).

My bikes have come with factory security which is not an alarm. It flashes the lights or some shyte like that. Disables the ignition too.

I added the Smart Siren II plus pager to make it into a proper alarm. Bought both from online dealers for a fair price. This combination does work and kindly squeals at the idiot who wants to sit on my bike and upright it. Installation of the siren took 5-10 minutes and does NOT merit having the dealer do it! The pager needs another 5 minutes to sync so save the hour or more for labour and buy something nice for your mother, partner or bike!

I have had no problems with the HD security/alarm whatsoever and do recommend it as there are no relays (which are easily by-passed) and auto-arms. Just walk away and forget about it.

You can also add a brake lock for an added level of security; I use Roadlok on my bikes and my wife has a Xena lock for her's.

But, if they want your bike, they will take it. Insurance can help ease the pain when this happens but shoves a hot poker in your rusty sheriff's badge so I would like to think that Joey D. Thief would rather focus on a non-alarmed bike than mine. I might be wrong but this has yet to be proven.

And this is what turned me OFF of the Dawg. If all it takes is a $25 (or thereabouts) plug to steal my bike, $315 is a damn good deal knowing that they will have to drag mine away while it screams rather than plug it a new relay, fire her up and leave a patch of rubber as a reminder of what was once my bike.

The only good thing (for me) about the Dawg is the keyless ignition. My Street Glide has this from the factory but my Street Bob; just one less thing to go wrong!

My 2000 dyna I had an Immobilizer installed (this was way back before HD came out with theirs...kinda like the old Viber alarm for cars). When I ordered my 06' Road King I ordered basic black, no alarm.

As already noted the stock alarm only flashes the lights and disables the ignition. The factory siren is more a chirper than a siren, not loud by several posts I have seen. I would get the factory system, modify it and put on a real siren. I also have a Cycle Cable Lock I bought from Eastern Performance cycles. Looks well built, has a good thick plastic coating so it won't scractch the bike. My alarm has never run the battery down and the bike has set as long as 5 weeks. I do plug the bike into a battery tender after it has set for a long time and bring the battery up to charge.

I like the idea of having the factory alarm. Tho I am having wild electrical issues on my brand new bike. I’m not inclined to believe it is the security system doing it.

I might add that little siren and pager one of these days…… something on my list. I’d actually rather have just the pager, but I think you have to have the siren before you can get the pager.

Sounds like you and I have the same bike. I am the 3rd owner of mine. There is a sequence of pushes on the turn signal buttons that will disarm the alarm if you don't have the alarm fob with you. I don't know the sequence for mine because of previous owners. The local HD shop "thinks" they can read it on the computer and give me the code. Otherwise, I need to track down the previous owners to see if they remember the code.

I would think that a dealer could remove it and install a different plug into the system if you want it gone. After all it is merely an option and should not be required to make the bike run.

Check with your local dealer. (Preferably the actual man in the shop that will do the work if possible.)
