Check with insurance to see if it gives you a discount. My geico does. If the discount is significant enough may pay for it there after a couple of years. My bike was pre owned and came with it. Added bonus to me.
I don't have one and don't want one. I don't want the hassle, the cost, the weight, the cost, the cost and the drain on my electrical system. I also don't want the cost.
Someone want my bike? TAKE IT. That's why I have full coverage with Allstate. Oh and Allstate saves you $9 a year with the alarm.
That''s really weird (I work in insurance). What company is that?
its in Quebec, canada,,, AXA insurance.. here in Montreal, we are the capital for auto and bike thefts.. im glad i wasnt forced to put a GPS theft module too which then has a 240.00 yearly fee.. called Boomerang here..

Wow, that sucks. At least I know if I ever need a job in insurance I can got to Montreal!! LOL
I'm not entirely sure you can get the bike without it.I would have skipped it if I could.I have never used mine and couldn't remember how to use it if I had to.I just park it and lock it like every other bike I've owned over the last 30 or so years and it's never been stolen. Then again I live in a sparsely populated low crime part of the country.
Not all new bikes come with the alarm. It IS an option. But many do come from the factory with the alarm already installed.
And for some people that don't know, the alarm doesn't always come with the "siren". They are 2 separate parts.
My new bike came with the alarm already installed on the bike from the factory, but it does not have the siren. I can have the siren installed at any time but I will have to pay for the part and labor if I have them install it.
The Siren will "chirp" when you walk away from the bike or as the fob gets further away from the bike. Sort of a message that the alarm has been activated. The little key light will also show up on the speedo/dash.
Once the alarm is activated, if the bike is just slightly moved, the siren will go off loudly. You either have to get the fob near the bike or manually disarm it by using the turn signal buttons and the code you were given.
Sorry for the long explanation but I know there are some guys who were not sure how the alarm and siren worked. I hope this helps a little more.
The one thing to remember is if someone wants your bike bad enough, they WILL get it. No alarm or security is going to be 100% effective 100% of the time. That's why there is insurance.
Personally I like having the alarm, it just gives me a little more piece of mind as well as my insuracne.

Evidently Canadian law does not punish offenders under 18. A client of mine was discussing this with me a little bit ago. Kinda interesting.
If they want your bike, an alarm isn't going to stop them. (bastiches)
There are too many ways for the alarm to bite you in the A$$. Particularly if you turn your own wrench.
The cost of an alarm would buy a whole lot of bullets.
My .02
Mine came with the bike. My insurance company would not insure the bike without an alarm. My brother bought a bike in July and made the mistake of telling his insurance co. that the bike didn't have an alarm. They would not insure it the dealer would not let him take it without insurance. What a pain.
I plan on buying the siren cause flashing lights don't really do anything.
