I am looking at getting the Big Radious for my 2008 Dyna Lowrider, my concern is that the position of the pipes. Do they generate a lot of heat? I live in South Florida and the pipes look so close to your legs. Any advise?
no they do not generate too much heat. They generate crappy noise on decel and a bad dip in torque from 2000-3500 RPM's. Good horsepower on the top end though. I just traded mine for some D&D fatcats. Best thing I ever did for my bike.
i have been happy with mine as well... if you are buying an exhaust man go with a 2-1 it is what all harleys SHOULD have... there is no question... if you jsut want looks... these look cool... i got mine for free on a trade with some powder coating work i did for a guy... i like em... they work well with the bike, i would drop them in a SECOND for a thunder header!
No extra heat issues. As with any exhaust, you still wouldn't want to touch your bare leg or nylon rainpants to it while they are hot. But they have heat shields just like most others. As for the sound, I think they are perfect. But that's all personal choice. As for the looks, I'm biased but thought this before I got them and still feel this way - they are one of the best options, especially for dynas. I get more compliments on my pipes than the bike itself. Some people say that's exactly the reason not to get them but it doesn't bother me.
Like Joe said though, if it's performance you want, it's hard to beat a 2-1.
It's an easy installation job. i think they are the best looking pipes on a Dyna, but again, personal preference. I would like to have 2-1's but I have not seen a set I like the looks of yet.
I had big radius pipes. They looked pretty cool. No heat issues. Just didn't like the sound all that much. A bit to raspy for my taste. They sounded amazing at first, but after hearing other pipes, I didn't like them much. But, then I took the baffles out and DAMN.. they just sounded incredible, but lost a huge amount of torque.
And I see your in West Palm, eh? We should ride sometime. I'm over here in Lake Worth. We should get a Dyna group together from down here in south Florida and get a ride together. Lot of us live down here.
Do you have big city thunder baffles in yours? I have some big radius pipes in a box waiting to be installed. Did you put them on yourself?
I'm using mine right out of the box. Don't want them any louder. I like that they are not overly loud when cruising (can still definitely hear me coming) but they really scream when you twist the throttle.
I didn't install them myself but I could have. Dealer gave me a good deal on the install and I didn't have to chance breaking the O2 sensors and having to replace them. So, be careful removing those.
One other thing. The lower exhaust bracket for the stock exhaust is not used for these pipes. It takes a special tool to get at the bolts to remove it. Dealer didn't remove mine and didn't ask me if i wanted them too. Someone loaned me the tool but the pipes were in the way by then and I wasn't going to remove them just to get that bracket off. It's not that noticeable but it did irk me that they didn't take it off or at least ask.
