it is probibly the easiest thing you can do on your bike performance wise. no sweat. if you can tie your shoe, or figure out how to get a twist off bottle cap off.
the sooner you spend the money for a service manual the better off you will be .it is the best money you will spend.it's a must have it is called the harley-davidson bible.
You can do anything you want with the exhaust, but if you alter the air intake such as giving it more air, you need to download new map to ecm, your engine will run to lean. not good
Now see i was told the compete opposite from the dealership.. They said as soon as i put my exhuast on i would need to get a PC or a new thingy from them.. But i was able to put my heavy breather on without any problems.. So i put the heavy breather on and had no problems even went on a 200 mile ride with no issues.. Last night i installed my new V&H and took it for a ride ( still without a PC) and it went perfect with no problems.. PC should be here today but who knows...
oh yeah but what i meant to get to was...... Did you have the extra wire hanging down after the install was done?? i tucked mine up under and had no problems with it :P
With '07 (or was it '06 ...) and later bikes, they have O2 sensor plugs on the exhaust headers that will adjust the amount of fuel to prevent it from running too lean (on the flip side, I don't think it will enrich it more that stock standards). This is referred to as closed loop fuel injection.
Therefore, it shouldn't run bad with A/C and exhaust changed out with aftermarket parts, as the O2 sensors will compensate for the differences in air flow.
If you want to improve the performance by enriching the air/fuel (A/F) mixture, then you'll need an aftermarket electronic fuel injection controller unit (or piggyback system) that will allow you to override the stock settings. (Stock settings are suboptimal due to the factory having to comply with EPA requirements.)
For the models made prior to the introduction of closed loop EFI, it would be true that changing stock A/C and pipes would cause problems with the A/F ratio.
