I've done some searching of threads, read a lot of posts, but still don't have the answer I'm looking for. It seems most shock topics (all of the ones I found anyway) turned off topic or into an argument. I really want to get some 11" or maybe 11.5" rear shocks mostly because I am not very tall, and though I can sit flat footed, it still doesn't feel as comfortable as it would if I were another inch or even just a 1/2 an inch lower.
I still have the stock seat (09 fxdb). I like it and don't want to spend the $ at this point in replacing it with a thinner seat.
I also really like the bounce in the stock rear shocks, so I don't want to lose too much of that...
What is the best bang for the buck? I don't need the highest performance, i just want something that is as good or better than stock shocks. I would like to spend under $400 but would probably be willing to spend up to $450.
Progresive has the 412's which are well under $400 and I heard good things about them. Be worth a look into those. Others on here have lowered the front by sliding the tubes up into the trees a little farther. That would get you by until you could do it right.
Most here will recommend you Progressive 412s based on your criteria. FXDB shocks are 12", 412s are available in 11.5" or 11". They're definitely better than stock shocks, but you will lose some of that bounce, and this is unavoidable since the shocks have less length of travel.
Just my opinion, but for under the amount of money you want to spend, you can do progressive rear spocks and simple-to-install progressive drop in springs up front. Total cost will be less than $325.00 if you do the work.
Maybe not the best suspension available, but will be at least as good as what you are replacing, if not better. You will probably get a better ride with 11.5" shocks having more travel than the 11".
If you just want better rear shocks, look at Works suspension. They will run you $400 - $450.
