Default Problem with True-Track and engine guard

I just installed the True-Track brackets -- without too much hassle. [I took several pics if anyone needs a little better guidance than the included instructions.]

The problem is that the darn front True-Track bracket interferes terribly with the engine guard and u-bolts. The velcro tape on the frame that you see in the pics below is where the u-bolts go over the frame. I'm so bummed -- mostly because I just got the engine guard back from Roger (powdercoater), and it looks so awesome (just like the zillion other parts Roger did for me).

Has anyone installed a True-Track with the HD Dyna engine guard???

At this point, I think my least-hassle option will be to heat up the lower mounting flanges on the guard with a torch, carefully straighten them out, and have the u-bolts attach from inside out instead of back to front (if that makes sense). Of course, I'll have to re-powdercoat the @#*!@ guard. Anybody have a better idea? And please don't say, "forget the guard." I like it, it looks wicked in satin black, and I'm committed to making it work -- without grinding and welding on the frame.

One thing you could do is get a piece of flat steel have it cut so that it matches the shape of the tang on your engine guard. Make the top end taller, drill matching holes in the flat steel with two additional holes near the top. This will bring the u-bolts higher, missing your true-track and without having to alter the fabrication of your guard, do it for both sides then have them powder coated as well.

Thanks bigmikaele; I hadn't thought of that. It's just that there is so little room between the frame and the True-Track bracket, I think I'd have to buzz off half of the tang just to get it flat against the frame again -- let alone with another piece of flat steel in there. I'll look at it again tomorrow with a fresh set of eyes. . . .
