I pretty much like everything about my WG except the leather dash extension that connects the chrome panel on the gas tank to the seat. I think it looks out of place. I know HD makes a chrome panel extension to replace the leather. Anybody try this?
I would prefer to simply not have anything there at all. Is there a seam or something on the gas tank that is hidden by the leather dash panel extension? Can I take off the leather extension? I like my paint job, wouldn't mind seeing more of it on my gas tank !
I bought the chrome dash panel extension and I love it. It was easy to install and seems to fit well (looks like it belongs). Check my photo album. I believe there may be a few pics in there that show it.
Yea there is a seam there. The chrome one from harley is OK. It has a little contour to it. I'm looking for something flamed though. I'll find one I want eventually. If you want mine we can work out something, ??
The reason I think that MOCO put the leather strip there is for when you are putting the seat back on you won't scratch up the paint. I have seen where you can get some inlay of flames to put there if you have the full length chrome piece.
I think it looks good, just wish there wasn't a seam to deal with underneath.
Like I said...I don't think it looks out of place. I'll admit, a full length dash panel would look better...and I think there used to be one available (if there's one for 06's I'm not sure). But the bottom line is, the extension is only like 35 - 40 bucks. That's considerably cheaper than getting a one piece unit. I really like it...definitely better than the stock leather strip. You could also go a different route and get a leather panel with a pouch, studs, designs, etc. But if you want chrome, the extension is a nice piece. The only complaint I have is that it's easy to put fine scratches in it...and once they're there, they're hard to get out.

I agree. The first time I washed my bike it got scratched all to hell. I know it's not how I clean it either since nothing else on the bike looks like that. All it is is chrome plated plastic. I'm looking for something else now.
I didn't realize it was plastic!
Geez, HD has some nerve charging the bucks for that. I'm like you then, I'll wait until I find something. I just hate looking at the leather piece of junk
