Front end Question....
what would be required to make an 06 and up superglide frontend work on an 04 super??? tried harley and couldnt get a definative answer... is the steering stem bolt larger and if it is could you have machined sleeves made to neck down the upper and lower trees to make the 04 stem bolt work...........???????????????? thanks a lot.........................tim
Say it ain't so ... "couldn't get a definitive answer" when you asked the dealership if you could color outside of the lines, in a manner of speaking.
There is a slight difference in the vertical distance between the triple (clamps) or 'trees,' I believe. However, I think the later models require slightly more space than the earlier models. Therefore, it's possible that when you torque the stem nut to specs it'll be 0.15 inch closer together than the stock configuration. It should not be noticable, nor should it cause any adverse effects. (Probably no need to machine anything as it's only about an eighth of an inch.)
As noted, you'll have to go with same model year hub. You could go to a 21" wheel if you wanted to lace it to the hub ... that seems like a popular mod that looks good and fits under the stock fender (speaking of which you'll also have to get as there are differences in the mounting brackets--as well as the width).
Good luck ... you going with Wide Glide or standard width ... wide is good!

Priest is correct. The difference is minor, my front end is from an 05 Fat Boy. The steering stop looks to be the same or darn close. My bet is the lock will be real close as well. I say go for it.
Thanks guys , i just love the look of the bigger stock superglide forks as compared to mine..... the sportster front end does not look as though it belongs on a dyna.. not a big fan of the wide glide and dont like the extra rake in the triples........ want a factory hd part that is easily serviced and that i can get parts for readily.............................tim
order from zanotti's and save a couple hundred over local stealer prices! My wide glide 41mm was almost 300 less through them than the stealer(I have a stock 05 wideglide 41mm front)
is this a dealer or do they sell OE parts or what??? if i go with the wide glide fe what will have to be changed????thanks ..................tim

Zanotti Motor is a dealer that has an internet parts business ... sell at a pretty respectable discount. There are several others you should comparison shop, as well. Sometimes Chicago Harley has better prices (or comined price/shipping charge) ... or Surdyke ... doesn't hurt to shop around.
If you're switching out from a 39mm front end to either 41mm or 49mm, you'll need (i) triple trees, (ii) fork tubes (with lower sliders), (iii) axle of appropriate width, (iv) wheel and spacers of appropriate width, and (v) fender of appropriate width (with the proper horizontally or vertically aligned mount, depending on year). Usually if you buy take-off parts on e-bay/craigslist/hdforum, the triple trees come with the bearings and dust covers. There should be no need to replace the bearing races in the neck as they are reusable (not to mention a bear to get out).
I don't have the part numbers at my finger tips. HDForum member WS6Formula has a thread that lists the Wide Glide parts he used for his front end conversion, and there might be some other threads with the info needed. I replaced my front end with an '02 Fat Boy take-off ... not sure of the part numbers involved there ....
Hope this helps.

The 49mm front will requires an 06+ fender.
On the 41mm front.... you can bend the 39mm fender to fit(what I did for now) or get a spacer or new fender. The 49mm fenders are different on a couple models. The 09 streetbob is shorter than the other models. I had read that for 09 the fenders on all models are a little closer to the tire(less gap). I am not positive of that though.
Couple other things. you will want a 2" lowering kit to keep your front end from being up in the air(wideglide has longer tubes). The trees are chrome and not polished on the 41mm.
You can also put deuce lowers on the 05 wideglide trees. (Need a deuce fender and axle/wheel that fits). I am unsure the overall height of a deuce lower assembly, you may not need to lower it 2" like the wideglide lower assembly(gotta measure and compare to current height, however, the 41mm trees are not as far above the neck as the 39 or 49mm ones are). the top of the upper assembly actually sits about an inch lower than a 39 or 49mm top tree.
