Lightbulb bound and determined to get running boards!

OK, here is the deal, I am not interested in spending a ton of $ for the FXDP setup that needs modified anyway. I found somebody that will make me some brackets so I can put stock HD running boards on my Dyna. Does anybody have a trashed set, condition can be garbage as long as i can use them to create the mounts.

I will even send them back to you what when I am done,, or even buy them if they are cheap enough. If they are cheap enough, I will even have a set made for you. End goal is for me to get a set of on by bike in the next 30-45 days. Maybe even attempt to mass produce them.

Thanks

The FXDP floorboards don't need modifying to fit. They bolt right on.

Also, the FXDP floorboards are standard HD floorboards.

Norm:

In my experience there are a couple of ways to get boards:

- the easy way - buy the peg mounted boards from J&P Cycles or some such. You'll be in for less than about $100.

- the hard way - (a) Dyna floorboards (from FXDP "Police Defender" ... model discontinued in '04). I think there may be a few NOS out there or some take-offs floating around on fleabay or craigslist, etc. Will probably set you back about $500 or more. Then, there's the issue with '06 and later primary doesn't have a boss that the earlier primary covers had on which the shifter parts mounted. You can fabricate another support as Keeg has done or figure out another work-around like Gary7.

- hard way (b) is to adapt Softail floorboards ... that's the approach I took. All the floorboard parts will run you about $500 more or less, then you have to make or buy an adapter as the frame mount for Softail is different than the Dyna frame. I just used an 2" extension kit made by Cycle Vision and drilled/countersunk one hole on each side and assembled everything. One complication (or drawback if you look at it that way) is you'll have to change your rear brake system out. Not that hard, but takes a little doing.

Good luck ... you've got your work cut out for you.

I went hard way b. I got the parts off ebay and will be into it just under $500. I used some scrap from work and maade the brackets. Very happy with the results. Would have never thought to try had it not been for Priest and clstop (I think I got his screen name right).

Not the clearest picture and some of it is a little obscured, but you can see pretty much everything.

The bracket is one piece. Behind it is the Cycle Vision "Go Forward" extension kit that I used to adapt to my frame. in the foreground, you can see the shifter and floorboard ....

Hope that helps ... I'll try to take another one either tomorrow or this weekend if you can't make it out from the photo below ... let me know.

Here are a few of mine. Don't mind the brackets, I still have a bit of work to do on them. One thing I did was I removed the shift levers and reversed the order they were installed. They way it came to me the toe lever went on the shift shaft first and the heel lever last. It made a big difference in comfort because it leme bring my foot in closer.

See the other post on this and hang on awhile. I have a shifter kit ordered from EGLIDEGOODIES.com. It bolts to the footboards. I will post pics when complete. I am sure it will need some modification to work - but feel it will be very minor. The mod will be due to the fact that there is less room between the mounting location on the dyna board than the softail and eglide boards. The kit is 199.99 so far less than most other options.

Priest - Can you give me a measurement from the footboard mounting bracket to the front of the board. You used softail boards which are the same as the eglide. The mounting location is different on the softail boards than the Dyna. Just want to know how much of a mod I am looking at on the linkage brakets on the EGLIDEGOODIES shifter you pointed out. Thanks
