So, I got the baffles and I plan on doing this mod in the next two weeks. I'm a little unsure if I should leave the glass packing in or go with a Stainless Steel repack (like this - ? http://www.amazon.com/Two-Brothers-R...=29RCVV21HNT75 ?).

And for the adapter pipe, is it 100% needed? From what I understand the front end of the baffle will rattle without it. But if I wrap the baffle with stainless steel wool deep enough, won't that eliminate the rattle too?

I'm also planning on painting the muffs and heat shields with hi-temp grill paint while doing this mod. I'll post pics as soon as it's done.

Punchsmack I started with the glass pack but it started blowing out. Now I'm using fine stainless steel wool and it's working great. I'm also using an adapter pipe.

I did get pulled over by the state police this morning on the way to work doing 80mph. The cop measured the decibel level and he told me the exhaust was illegal even at idle. He let me off with a warning on both the speeding and the loud pipes but he made me promise to put the stock baffles back in...

seawarrior, did you put your stock muffs back on?

Well, I never got around to do this mod.....I've been riding too much. Maybe that's a good thing.

That's not entirely honest. I did start the process a few weeks back and couldn't get the muffs off. I was by myself and I think my muffs are a bit rusted on. Any tips on getting these things off without using dynamite? I heard someone suggest soaking WD40 on them but not sure how that would work. My muffs barely moved at all (yes, I had all the clamps off).

I got my bike used and it's an 09...so these stock muffs have been on there a while. I don't want to go banging on them cause it could damage something else.

I'm doing a 300+ ride this weekend and a 800+ ride the following. So this will have to wait until August 7th (or maybe the next rainy weekend after that).

I know this post is over a year old, but since people are still replying to it I figured I would ask a stupid question.... Does anyone know if this mod works on the 2010 SB muffs, and what is the length of the Cycle Shack baffles? Any replies are greatly accepted.

I think it should work fine. I thought someone in this thread already did it to a '10.

nice work. added bonus of course is that they appear totally stock and would still have the factory markings on them so you shouldn't attract nearly as much attention from the popo

Well....my dad and I FINALLY got these baffles in over the weekend. It seemed like I was always riding on the weekends or my dad wasn't here to help. The planets aligned and gave us the whole day to work in the garage.

WOW!

Gary wasn't kidding on the sound! I would say it's at least twice as deep and loud compared to stock. And for $40, not bad.

We picked up two adaptor pipes from Advanced Auto. They actually had the right size ready to go. I think they were $3 a piece. My dad had to hacksaw an inch off each for it to fit properly but that wasn't too bad. And I didn't put any packing or stainless steel wool in.

Great mod for under $50.

I'll get a video posted in here soon. My dad took a video last night but I couldn't get his videos to download off his phone (the quality was terrible anyway).

They sound better. I'd be cool to here you run them down the street and back. I would like to hear them under stress.

Do you have one fork black and one fork stock?
