Default anyone weld thier crank??

I'm looking to do a big engine upgrade soon and have heard with any big engine upgrade on a 06- later TC it would be wise to weld your crank/flywheel.
Has anyone heard or done this?

I'm curious to see if anyone has done it and to how it held up.

Any input is appreciated. Thanks fellas

I know you are likely aware this is not a do it yourself mod. There are perfomance houses and machine shops that will true your flywheel assembly to zero runout and perfect phase and then plug and weld (tig) the assembly to make it one pc. so you never need to worry about "crank scissoring" or the flywheels becoming out of phase. A definite good idea before going too far over 100 inchs and/or 110 horse power with the 4 3/8 stroke stock crank in the 96 ci 06 and up motors. Harley must know they have a problem because they have upped the tolerance from .003 runout to .012 over the last couple years I assume to avoid warranty flywheel replacements. But man, .012 can't be good for the motor. Not a cheap option, but great insurance and peace of mind.

Chad Peterson, did your crank scissor before the 95"build or after?

Ya I'm deffinately not gana be doing all this myself. I have a friend that use to be a tech at a local Harley dealership doing it for me for a pretty good price.
Since there is a few of you guys that have done this, if you guys don mind me asking, how much did it run you?
my buddy told me to have mine sent out it is gana cost $500! But I'm willing to consider that an ivestment seeing how much I ride my bike. I want to have the biggest build I can along with the most amount of reliability.

If you open the lower end, you will definitely want to weld the crankpin,

and upgrade bearings

This whole crank issue is giving me sleepless nights. Whatever happened to Harley's rep for having a bulletproof lower end with the TC? I wanna build some power into this wheezer TC96 but I don't wanna have to pull the whole damn motor apart and have the crank welded. It would be sooo easy to replace the cams, pistons, and have the heads worked on but I know if I don't have the crank redone at the same time it'll self destruct within a year. So now a one week job turns into at least a month of downtime and an extra $500-$600 just to get back the reliability that H-D engineered out of it. CHRIST!
