If the baffles haven't been removed and it's not obnoxiously loud, I think you'll be fine. Not sure what your state laws are but in Maryland, my bike failed without baffles.
Just glad I know a friend of a friend who owns a state inspection station.
Do you think the V&H shorty exhaust is going to be a problem with me trying to get an inspection sticker in MA?
It all depends where you go.
I called up the closest place to my house - a dirt bike parts dealer and asked if he did inspections. He did - but told me over the phone - "if you took your reflectors off, or changed your exhaust from stock - I will fail you".
Thanks for the heads up - never going there - found a guy that doesn't even start the bike. Just checks that the registration is good, horn and lights work. Most are probably like this.
Talk to bike owners in your area - ask where they go.
Here is the latest deal in MASS - There is an existing noise law on the books. If your muffler meets the existing noise law, regardless if it is stock or aftermarket then it is legal. The RMV has been trying to scare bike shops, they cannot change state law. SUPPORT THE MMA!

from the "law" - "Unnecessary noise is herein defined as, any noise which is louder than that emitted by the motorcycle with original manufacturers equipment."
Don't all aftermarket exhaust made for HD motorcycles make more noise that stock? I believe this law is pretty subjective i.e. - what's the measurement "standard" - some guys ears???
(a) Motorcycles required to be registered under M.G.L. c. 90, s. 2 for operation on the ways of the commonwealth shall not exceed the following noise levels when operated at 1/2 redline speed: 99 dBA if manufactured after 1/1/86 102 dBA if manufactured before 1/1/86
The RMV is trying to SCARE bike inspection shops, with their own verbiage which is not in compliance with Mass state LAW.
I would have told the dirt bike dealer guy, "Thanks, I'll be sure to tell all my friends to never come to you for an inspection. You saved me a worthless trip. Bye"
Just to let him know what a by the book moron he was being.
I'm glad we have no inspections in Ohio, the one advantage for living with crappy weather for 6 months.

Ehh, the dirt bike shop guy didn't know who you were over the phone. He was just covering his ***, just in case you might have been a state rep 'checking up' on the indy inspection stations. I bet if you went down there and showed him you're just an average guy....he'd probably hook you up.
