I'm a new Harley owner, so my question is probably elementary, but here goes...
I have an 07 Wide Glide that I bought recently, and it came equipped with detachable side plates/sissy bar. Can I mount bolt on saddlebags with the detachable side plates or is that problematic? Also, I notice many comments about relocating turn signals. Is that required for an 07 WG? It doesn't look like it should be necessary.
Any advice is appreciated.
From what I have figured out is the only way you'd have to relocate the rear turn signals is if you buy bags that are wider than the space between the turn signals and the shocks minus 1/2" or so for clearance. That's about 17", because I have an 07 WG and have measured it before. So, if you buy bags that are <=17" wide you should be fine. Something I have in the works is to do away with the rear turn signals by using a taillight/turn signal combo. Pic below. Just having issues with the mounting of it.
I have a 07 WG with with the same set up you have, did not have to relocate signals, got HD saddle bags, I believe the are the 79300-b , the size is prefect for a WG in my opinion.
My '07 DWG is in my sig. I have the detachable backrest and the harley bags.
I tried the easy brackets with the detachable backrest and thought it made the bags stick out too far.
Waiting to afford some boss bags now.
OK then. I think I'm hearing that it will work but the bags may be positioned a bit further away from the bike. I suppose I can try it and see how I like it.
I do want to keep the sissy bar, so I expect that means I'll still need sideplates. Will the bags mount closer with sideplates that are not detachable?
I took a pic of the space between saddlebag and bike, measurment wise it is 1 1/4", w/o detachabel it would probably be about half that. 07 WG w/79300-06B saddlebags
That looks pretty good. I printed your pic and went to the garage and took a closer look at my bike. There must be some special hardware that will accept the detachable plates and still provide an attachment point for the bags. I expect the parts counter at the local HD store could figure that out for me.
I appreciate you and the other responders going out of your way to assist with my question. Especially for a new, first time Harley owner, this is really helpful.
