It's good they took care of it, but, to me, at the prices they charge for service there should be no single point of failure. You're paying a premium price, there should be enough checks and rechecks to ensure there is no way in hell you're leaving without oil.
Tales like this are all too common and serve as a reminder of why I do ALL my own work. The guy making critical repairs and adjustments to your bike that could jeopordize your life might have a meth lab in his double-wide.
Okay, so I'm down in Yuma, AZ right now, having a good run with friends and family.
We take the bikes out on Friday for a little joy riding before the Saturday ride.
I hear a loud "CLACK" in my primary. We went 150 miles but luckily it happened only a mile or so from the place we are staying.
So it's making this loud rattling noise in idle and in gear, etc. From the primary.
So I get it over to the dealership here and guess what...
NO OIL IN THE PRIMARY!!!!!!
When the Denver dealership put the controls on they forgot to put oil back in!!!
Anyway, all is good now. They had to pull another Bob off the sales floor and swap everything out, and the Denver dealership paid for it. And they got it all done in 4 hours the same afternoon when I brought it in! The day before a ride! Amazing, and I really recommend the Yuma Dealership.
Man, and I thought it rode good before!!! LOL
So apparently you can go about 375 miles without oil, or at least in cold Colorado weather!
Thank God it didn't lock up at 75 MPH!
Anyway, I got a windhield finally so I have some pics that I will upload when I get back to Colorado.
wow, i had my bike for 150 when i put forward controls on it and i didnt have the dealership put my controls on because i'm good friends with a guy who owns a garage and works on harleys (just not a dealership) and when he was doing my controls called me and told me there was no oil in my primary... said it had to come like.. but since i didnt have the dealership do it they couldnt do anything for me...

What dealership was it? Freedom HD, Sun HD, Mile High Harley? I live in the Denver area and want to make sure I don't go there. Really should have check fluid level and air pressure though.

Are you saying you should routinely check your primary level? That entails pulling the derby cover; there is no dipstick for the primary.
+1,000 on checking/changing your own fluids. IT IS NOT DIFFICULT! If you can remove your seat, or open a beer...you can remove a drain plug or oil filter. Lefty-lucy
