Keep in mind the TT is made to work on all Dyna models. From what I've read, the motor mounts on the 06 and up frames were beefed up versus the older frame. It could be that this limit bolt on the TT is really needed more on the older Dynas that had softer motor mounts to begin with.
It could be some variation between years, but mine is a 2003 with 18,000 miles. I just think it depends more on the condition of the mounts.
Or possibly for large engine upgrades. That may cause a lot of additional movement.
The picture is not of my personal bike; just for illustration.
The bolt actually fell out, I found out when I went to fix it.
That is why the vibes calmed down just before I got home, I presume.
I'm not sure if I need it, as I rode to work today and everything is good. If it actually makes contact with this bolt on a regular basis, I would think it should be a rubber bumper instead.
I'm going to run without it for a while. Sure has changed the ride!
I had a similar problem with my wife's Dyna - only nipped that bolt up, not tight enough. It came undone and caused bad vibes in just a few miles. I can see no purpose for it at all, so screwed it in as far as it will go, then tightened the locknut. Hasn't been any trouble since! I only left it in to fill the hole.
Our Dyna has an engine guard. Front mount goes nowhere near it.
Given that the engine guard mounts to the frame at the forward control mounts, I don't see how there could be an issue.
The engine guards on the 06 mounts to the frame down tubes...very close to where the front true track mounts. It uses U-bolts instead of the way they used to mount where the highway pegs are.
Rode lots on Saturday. Don't think that the missing bolt is an issue, for now anyhow. Maybe as the mounts wear out. I'll replace it later.
I do notice that the bike seems to be a lot smoother, less vibes coming through with throttle. And vibes at idle are different. Improvement.
Getting on the throttle from a stop it seems a bit more direct drive, hooks up harder. But then again I haven't rode in 3 months. So it was all a rush!
