On my bike the rear tire doesnt appear to be centered in the rear fender... its off abot 1/4 -3/8 " its closer to the left side of the fender...i have removed the rear tire assem. and all seems ok.. no slop in the swingarm and bearings are sealed units and appear to be ok as well....is there a different spacer kit for it or what do i need to check??? btw im gonna be adding a sputhe kit or a true rack while the bike is apart... which one should i go with??????..............................tim
Since the swingarm mounts to the tranny/engine, there is a good change the whole drive train is out of alignment. Follow the service manual's alignment procedures when you do the new stablizer kit. If alignment is the issue, it should be corrected then.
Another thing to check; if you are sure the wheel was aligned properly in the swingarm, check to make sure the rear fender is mounted and aligned correctly between the struts.
upon visual inspection th drivetrain appears to be properly located in the frame and i dont have it off yet but the fender appears to be intalled correctly as well.. not even sure if you could put it in wrong...gonna take some measurements later today and see what if anything i find out of whack?? doesnt appear to affect performance just looks silly.......................any thing else i need to look for or at??? btw what kit do you reccomend?????
Sorry, I do not have personel experience with either one. I am sure one/some of the guys on the forum here who have installed these kits will offer great info.
If it is riding in the center of the rear pully chances are it is correct. The belt will ride where ever it needs to on ther front pully to stay true to the rear, if that makes any sense. There is a good chance that your fender may be twisted and has been since it left the factory if everything else checks out to be okay. It could fit perfectly in the struts and still have a slight twist in it from when it was stamped.
Did you discover this by looking at the rear of the bike and noticed that the center of the tire tread didn't look to be centered perfectly.
I am not sure if the 04 is the same as the 06 as it has a 160 rear tire but this link may help to show how the spacers are on the rear axle. It seems that if your spacers were in incorrectly that your brakes would not line up properly.
its different from the 06 and up bikes... yes i noticed it when looking the bike over... i just recently purchased it..... hope itdoesnt take much to fix... how common is it for swingarm bearings to fail or shift??? bike has 13K miles on it..........................tm

In no professional but it seem that if the swingarm bearings were to fail that there would some slack in it. As for shifting I am not sure if that is possible. I am only assuming when I say this but I would almost bet that the bearings are pressed in and should have some sort of backing sleeve inside to prohibit the bearing from being pressed in too far.
