Just curious, what the avg mileage is for the stock pads. I know the SM says to replace when they get to 0.04" above the backing plate, but I suck at trying to figure out what that is And my fat max doesn't have hash marks that tiny
I figure if I can get an average mileage I will go by that. I have 8200 miles on the originals right now. And the only time I think about them is when I am riding and using them... can't look then They are stopping me fine and I don't have any issues right now.
Your gonna see a similar answer to tread life on tires here, it really depends upon your riding style. If I had to pick what I've heard for an average it would be about 8-10k, but that said I've got 15k on my stock pads. I'll probably have to replace them before the end of this riding season. So wouldn't suggest going by mileage, there's just way too much difference based on riding style.
I ride a little on the hard side and use the the front brake as my main stopping with the rear as an assist.I got 15K out of the front and the rear still have85%!!
Think i changed mine at about 16,000 and they really didn't need changed but good buddy mechanic was doing both tires for me and did the work for a case of beer so its like tires it just varies.
I told my mechanic to change my brake pads during the 15,000 service. He called me back and said they were fine and didn't need to be changed. I now have over 18,000 miles on them and they work just fine! I'll have them checked again at the 20,000 mile service.
stock pads SUCK ***! that was one of the first things i changed on my ride... get some nice lyndall golds... no more brake dust the stopping is 1000X's better! the stock pads blow!
Joe, that was what I was thinking, but just checking on wear to determine if that would be an excuse. Now that that is gone I will just have to look in the ole wallet to determine when I change them out.
