I just bought a 09 Street Bob and i wanted to install a set of rush mufflers and was told by the dealer if i did not install a SERT it would void the warranty on the bike. They said a HD rep came down and said they could not do the download any longer. I just wanted to know if anyone else has been told this by there dealer.
It's kind of hard to justify to the wife it's going to cost another 650.00 to install a 300.00 set of mufflers.
I have Rush mufflers and my dealer told me you only need the download if you install the stage 1 air cleaner kit. I have both and the dealer did the download in december. Unless, the moco stopped the stage 1 downloads(which I doubt), then you would need sert only for air cleaner upgrades, or engine upgrades, not mufflers. I'd go to a different "stealership".
Bought mine from the dealer with a new Superglide attached. Same thing here, nothing needs to be done until I changed the Air cleaner. Mine runs great, no popping or back firing. Sounds like your dealer is a stealer!
Our dealer out here put the rush's on my buddies bike themselves with no stage one or pc upgrade. They actually swear by rushes and pretty much tell everyone they should buy them if they just want slip ons without the recommendation of a sert or stage 1 download. Try another dealership or write harley yourself!!
