I just bought a 09 Street Bob and i wanted to install a set of rush mufflers and was told by the dealer if i did not install a SERT it would void the warranty on the bike. They said a HD rep came down and said they could not do the download any longer. I just wanted to know if anyone else has been told this by there dealer.
It's kind of hard to justify to the wife it's going to cost another 650.00 to install a 300.00 set of mufflers.
If any dealer wants to be a ***** about it..they can void your warranty if you installed a non HD part. The slip ons without an A/C change will not hurt your bike. But once you change the A/C then you have to stage 1 the bike. Call another dealer and see if they can give you a stage 1 download as you bike will run better with it.
They could by causing the bike to run too lean. Just because Rush says they won't or your dealer says they won't does not mean that on some bike it won't be an issue. It is up to the purchaser/rider to make sure the bike is not too lean. On my 07 Heritage, it was very lean with just the Rush slip-ons. I went with the ThunderMax and it runs great, runs cool. I then also did the AC and cams.
Thanks everyone for the replies, I really appreciate it.
I called Harley and they would not give a straight answer per-se since it not a Harley made part and so on and that it would void the warranty if they can prove it caused a failure if i had a claim.
My dealer told me that if I'm putting on slip on exhausts only, to keep the stock exhaust and if I have any problem to put the stock exhaust on before bringing the bike in for warranty or service work.
