Default garmin quest power help

i know this has probably been asked hundreds of times before, but can someone help me with this. i have fitted the harley mount and cradle for the quest to my fat bob, but dont get how to power it from the bike. the power lead that came with the garmin cradle says to put it on the battery but the harley mount it is telling me a complicated way using the fuse box. any help on this would be much apreciated.

I just wired mine directly to the battery. It doesn't use much power and it's nice not to have it restart every time you shut the bike off for a few minutes.

The other advantage to wiring it direct is that if you do have electrical problems on the bike later, the dealer can't claim it was caused by the GPS.

If you hook it directly to the battery, it will always be on unless you turn it off on the unit itself. I think a better approach (and Garmin agrees) is to hook it to a switched power source. Harley provides that source and calls it the owners accessary plug. It is a 4 pin connector with a cap on it that can be found under the seat. The connector has 1 black wire (ground) 2 orange and red (switched and fused 7.5 amps accessary power) and 1 red and yellow (rear brake light). You can get the other half of the connector and the pins that you need from the dealer. If you don't want to mess with the connector and all of the associated parts, you can buy the cigarette lighter kit for a dresser. It is aready wired to the plug that goes to this connector and all you would have to do is cut off the lighter and splice your Garmin wires to it.

I just got mine and haven't hooked it up yet but I am going with the same route used for the Passing/aux lites. Black to ground and the fused side to the "copper" terminal in the fuse box. That way it will shut off when I turn off the ignition Am thinking of a connection at the opposite end that would allow me to remove the cradle but haven't decided yet.

It sounds like it's probably too late for "Option B", but it's worth mentioning. I've got an SAE (battery tender connector) power cord that I can use to power just about anything with a cigarette lighter. I use it on long trips to charge my GPS, phone and mp3 player.
