Is it possible or have any of you fit a exhaust that was 'softail' to your dyna?
I don't want to be another V&H FXDB rider.
Don't get me wrong, I hear great things, and have no problem with em. I just want something different and am willing to weld, fit, whatever to get it.
Any help in the fitting of exhausts that were not produced for a dyna is greatly appreciated!
It would probably be easier to find another manufacturer of pipes other than V&H especially most companies make dyna versions of their soft tail products. Anyway, I think the major issues you are going to run into are bracket locations perhaps some clearance issues.
What are you looking for 2-1, 2-2, curved, straight, short, long?
Could always look around and do the whole buy and try thing.
The last several sets of exhaust I have had were for STs. You will have to fabricate a bracket but it is not hard. There is a post on here about making the bracket
I had the same thought. I'd like to put some black hookers on my FXDB but they're not available. Asked around the squealership and got some weird looks and then vague answers.
"Header fitment won't match."
-"Ummm....they're both V-twins, right???"
"Yeah, I guess they are."
-"You guess??"
"Mounting bracket won't match."
-"I can fabricate one."
"Don't mount them to the frame or you'll rip them apart."
-"Duh, thanks."
"Softails have counterbalanced flywheels."
-"Well thank God I'm not attaching the headers to the flywheel."
...FYI, some of those guys are big and have NO sense of humor...
The one answer I got that made sense was that the front downtubes of the frames are different and "may" not allow the softail pipes to fit the Dyna correctly. Seems like a simple 5 minute experiment to see how the pipes line up if you've got the pipes and a Dyna with no headers on it but I can't afford to buy the pipes to find out.
When I was looking for my '07 I saw alot of softail systems that I wanted to try that didn't have Dyna variations, but the main issue ssemed to be access to the oil filler and clearance for the mid peg mount which are two issues that are hard to work around.
I was just thinking of this for the last two days. They don't make any hi/lo shotgun/drag style pipes for the 09 SB. It seems like there are some for softails but they are different engine(earlier years), so that won't help.
I would like to get some like this
