I would like toi install on my 07 Dyna FXDC a set of mini apes - like the street Bob, and also a set of reasonably priced forward controls. Questions are;
1. Do I need longer cables for the min apes or can I use the originals.
2. Is there a set of forward controls that does not require the removal of the primary case cover.
The Kuryakyns don't require removal of the primary but I'm not sure of the cables for the mini apes though. I would suggest trying to measure the slack in you cables to see how much you have to work with. I have a set of SB mini apes with grips if you are interested.
As far as the forwards, many on here have installed the Harley forwards without removing the primary, thanks to information shared by another member named "WS6 Formula". If you do a search under his name, you will find a lot of info about how to do it by cutting the shifter shaft with a hacksaw between the primary and tranny cases.
For the apes and cables, you will get varying answers. Some have installed the mini-apes without changing cables. Some of the cables will need to be re-routed. The brake-line will require some bending of the steel sections.
Take offs cables are pretty easy and cheap to come by. Because of this, I chose not to try to stretch the OEM SUper Glide cables to make them work. I went a head and replaced them. Not that bad of a job and learned a lot doing it.
i replaced my cable with the matching streetbob cable when i installed streetbob mini apes..very easy job. as far as forwards controls, i used the hd brand from the dealer..i had to remove primary but i had to anyway to powder coat them...it was a fairly easy job as long as you have a manual...
I have a set of mini apes and the Brake line off an 06 bob that I am not using, I am sure someone else may be able to hook you up with throttle and idle cables,., Let me know if you are interested.
