you can move it any direction.try to look up inside of the shock.you have to lay down to do this.get a flashlight you will see the shock adjustments are stepped,im once you see this it will make since.just make sure you get them on the same step
Shouldn't need a flashlight unless it is really dark. What you want is more pre-load which means you need to twist it such that less of the "steps" are showing below the point where they "click" into the shock. If you aren't bottoming out without a passenger, you shouldn't need to move it more than a click or two unless your passenger is a real "load".

Harley sets it at level 3 from the factory but i set mine at level 2 and i weigh 300 pounds and is rides great and never bottoms out. I will kick it up to level 4 or 5 for a passenger
