Default Baffle Question

Considering BCT baffles for my SE II pipes. I looked in the pipes to examine the existing baffles but did not really see anything of substance.

Am I correct in assuming unbolting the two bolts at the end of the pipes will enable me to pull the old baffles out? When I look into the pipes should I see anything large inside? The pipes look empty.

I purchased the bike with the pipes installed and have since had a heavy breater, SERT and Dyno tuned.

Yes, you have to undo the two bolts and slide the old baffle out. At least this is how they were on my older style (the better ones) SEII's from my '06 Bob.

A couple things: I took my stock baffles out of my SEII's about 5 or 6 months after I got the bike. I couldn't really see them either unless I used a flash light as everything in the pipes was covered in black. Also, one of my baffles slid right out when the other required me to pull the muffler and oh-so-carefully knock the **** out of it with a rubber mallet and a piece of wood.

Sintax,

Thanks for the reply. Your earlier post about changing pipes, etc was also helpful. When I look into the pipe with a flashlight it appears to be hollow. There is it appears a metal sleeve with holes in it (very thin and hollow) and I also think I see the fiberglass type material I've read about in posts.

I looked on the BCT website and the baffles they show as SE II baffles are huge inserts. What I see is very thin and the pipe is pretty much hollow.

I guess the question is how would I know if they were already removed or if they are actually there?

E, what you are seeing in your SEII's are the original baffles, small pipe with holes within a larger pipe. When you pull that sucker out it will look like just like the one on the BCT site. They are actually pretty long, you are just seeing it from a different angle on their site. I have a set of BCT baffles for the SEII's if you are interested. I haven't put them in yet because I'm going with a full exhaust soon.

John,

I am going to pull the baffles out within the next couple of days to confirm what type of baffle is installed. Once I get done, I will PM you to get the information on your baffles. Definitely interested. Do you have a part number that I could confirm compatibility with the older SE II's I Have . I have the ones that say "Off Road Use Only" on a 2004 FXDLI

Thanks,
E
