a few months ago I swapped out my rigid backrest for the detachable setup. I had a chance to use it this weekend for the first time with my g/f.
All was fine until sunday morning when I went out to remove it because I was going on a solo ride. One of the screws that hold the black clamp (that locks onto the docking point) onto the siderail had backed out almost completely. Thank god it wasn't a problem during our ride. I'd hate think of what might have happened.
Today when I had a chance, I removed both screws and applied some blue lok-tite and re-installed them.
If you have this setup as I know many of you do, please check those two screws. It only takes a minute or two.
Note: seems funny that throughout the service manual, every other word seems to be lok-tite yet there was not a drop present on these two screws until I put it there.
Same thing happened to mine. Except the screw came completely out. I don't think there's much danger of anything while it's latched, but still.............
yes sir... i redo mine every few months when i do my oil changes. just for that reason... had a buddy tell me about it... better safe then sorry... my girl just leans back and chills when we ride

Joe I just had a thought about your sig pic. Is that the universal sign for "two in the pink, one to the head"?
Lock tite is a must on the harleys.
I put the head bolt covers on the left side of the engine. I was riding along and all the sudden there was this loud rattle that continued at idle. I couldn't figure out what it was. She was running fine so I headed for home.
Got home. one of the screws had come loose and the head bolt cover was rattling, and hanging on by one screw. Re tightened with locktite.... good to go.
