Cool Painting Question

Iam looking to do it myself on painting some chrome . What is the best way to make it stick to the chrome . Do I have sand blast it or is there a primer out there that will do the job ??

Thanks Phil

i would think that you could just scuff it or you can use some automotive primer ( i forget the exact term) but i know it prevents rust and will allow for a better stick of the new paint. hope this helps...

self etching primer... you have to scuff that chrome up REALLY well!

+1 self etching primer. Wash first to remove grease or wax, Dawn works ok, then sand blast (sand or glass) or sand really well, wash w/ lacquer thinner, then self etching primer, then primer surfacer to fill in sanding marks, then "paint"(2 part urethane would be fine)There's nickel plate under that chromium plate, you kinda have to get near the nickel or beyond to paint, so prep is key.

what about a wax and grease remover (martin senour makes ones inexpensive), / scuff up and cover with etching primer to fill in the scuffs

Some thinners have traces of oil in them. I think the best to use for cleaning are acetone or brake cleaner.
