I need a little help here. I bought a 2008 Dyna Super Glide Custom 105th Anniversary edition today and want to change the fluids. Problem is that this is my first Harley, and I do not know what fluids to change, or what weight fluids go where, or where to fill them from. The reason that I want to change them is because I bought the bike from a repo dealer, so I do not know the history. But I think I got a great deal! I got it from BKRepos.com in Temple Texas, he seems to have really great prices, especially compared to the local dealers. Anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks WCURDOG
Buy a Harley Davidson Manual Not one of the other brands, buy the harley manual. You can get one at your local stealer for 70 (they may or may not have it on hand). or on ebay for 40 if you have the wait in you. It will become your new best friend.
You'll need to stop by the stealer and pickup some parts. filter, cable lube, Oil (i run hd syn3 but their are differing opinion on it and everything else.), tranny fluid, gaskets, and rubber washers. The manual has all the parts listed and they can tell you what you need also ( let common sense apply).

1 qt 20-50 in the primary (you have to fill it trough the derby cover, it helps put the kick stand on a 2x4)
you can use 1 qt 20-50 in the trans also
2.5 qts 20-50 in the engine
you don't have to use motor oil in the trans but it is what came in it from Harley, I had some ams oil gear oil laying around so I used it

Ya get a Service manual it is a must if doing your own work.
The owners manual actually has pretty good directions for the fluid change. When I did my first service my service manual hadnt came in yet and i just followed the owners manual. I then did the rest of my checks when the service manual came in.
Thanks to all who sent reply's. I intend to get a service manual, just didn't want to have to wait to change the fluids, since I don't know the history, and don't want to ride it too much until I am satisfied that the fluids are fresh.
The motor only takes 2 1/2 quarts of oil on an oil change.
I run Bel Rey gear savor in the trans, my local harley dealer stocks is, i run syn3 in the motor and regular primary lube in the primary. FYI the Black oil filter from harley is $5 cheaper then the chrome one and also get 3 o'rings for the drain plugs and inspect them when you pull the plugs and replace if necessary. You may need to be buy a T27 torx bit for the bolts on the primary, it's kind of an odd size.

my bike took all 3 qts to put it at the full line?? I've never heard of anyone only useing 2.5
A brand new engine will take 3.0 quarts of oil in the engine. A brand new engine that has never had oil in it before is referred to as a "DRY" engine. Once an engine has been run with oil in it, it is referred to as a "WET" engine and will only take 2.5 quarts of oil. I have a 2007 FXDC and all of this is explicitly in the Harley Service Manual. If you put 3.0 quarts of oil in a wet engine, it will be over filled. A quick check is to pull out your dipstick when the engine is cold and the bike is on the kickstand. There are 7 X's on the dipstick. If more than 4 of the X's are covered with oil with the engine cold, then you are overfilled. Harley Dealers typically put in 3.0 quarts of oil because they are too lazy to put in 2.5 quarts and check the oil level.
Like I said, this is all in the HD Service Manual in the Maintenance Section.

wouldn't the dip stick read higher when cold? 7 x's is full hot, so you would think that a clod bike would read a little higher than that first thing in the morning?
