Default what to do next - performance

SO I have all the big items for my dual disk install. My fenders and bags w/ detachable brackets are in , buying paint this weekend. So looking at my next project. As we all are painfully aware the economy sucks. So we each have to be very frugal in our expendatures (sp?). My question is what to prepare for next. Cams, heads, bore job???? what does one do.

CAM Upgrade
$271.00 HQ 500 Cam
$160.00 HQ Black ops lifters
$80.00 HQ push rod covers
$142.00 HQ adj push rods
$653.00
$45.00 shipping
$698.00 total

So with @ $700 to work with - where is the biggest gain in performance. Now the secret part. Gotta buddy with a new 96" road king. I wanna smoke him. So where does the money go?

woods cames like the 6-6 work better with higher compression motors. (at least so I have been told.
$1000 for heads and another @ $700 for cams with all the goodies - you exceeded the budget !!!!

I'm not the smartest mechanic in the tool shop, but It looks like you already have the air intake and and exhaust, and considering that these engines are basically big air pumps. Doesn't that mean that your cam is going to make the biggest difference in performance to help it move that air?

Also, won't your dyna already school a road king? I can tell you my 88 twin cam isn't that much slower than my moms stock 96 if any.

Ever think of putting that money into handling mods? IMO, those count as performance upgrades.

go to www.bigboyzheadporting.com or call Bean he is a good guy. they start at 300 for street heads and i paid 4 somthing for cams from woods ....you could get away with a little over 700 if you can do the installation yourself

the dyna chassis handles great as it....mostly the rider. go with engine mods

I would order HD 18538-99B lifters at $100 and SE taper pushrods 18404-08 for $136 at Zanatti's. That would save you almost $150

For $790 you could order the above parts and get a gear drive setup

Remember that when doing the heads that there are extra's involved. Gaskets? ($100) Also if you are in there, why stop at a standard port job, why not spend the extra $$ and do the valves, springs Compression releases? Also, are the stock pistons going to work with the new heads and cams?

$300 + $400 for cams = $700 with no lifters, pushrods, head gaskets or cam bearings or cover gasket....just saying. Projects tend to add up with all the little extras. But I guess it really depends on how stuck he is on $700

I was going to get into mine and check the tensioners and replace the cams. Then I figured, I might as well build it for the cams....$3500 later (parts and machine shop labor), its ready to go back together.

Small amount of headwork & woods tw-6-6's will work great (a respectable build) & you'll beat him, but if ya want to smoke him...save your money till ya can do an allround no budget build! Not sure exactly what kind of power ya want & where ya want it, but it sounds like your hungry! Lol
