don't remember the month,
46 years ago my first big machine. a 64 model XLCH.......

the only reason I remember, because it was for my 17th b-day and just in time for Daytona.
It was a well executed 6 month plan to sell bad mexican weed, 'ludes and anything else that high school kids would spend lunch money on ....
It workded and on March 1st of 1980. I left snowy Cleveland,OH for Florida sunshine. It only took 8hrs to get to dry roads and above freezing temps.
Cool Sporty, Mud. I've always wanted a magneto XLCH, but never had the pleasure.
My Triumphs and the Shovel are kick only.
The Shovel is 2-3 kicks cold and always 1 kick hot. Its old, slow and not so shiny, but gets a lot of attention from the people who know what it is and "have been there". The others just don't matter.
those pipe spikes are different. Did you just drill small holes through the shields and screw them in? Did you have to use some epoxy to keep them from rattling loose? And did you cur pieces of tubing to make those bars your highway pegs are on? Definitely personalized
Drilled all the holes in the exhaust shields and tank rib and some red Locktite. Haven't come loose yet.
The HWY peg mounts I made out of some 1.125" tubing and some .25" plate for a bracket, just don't really care for crash bars so I made my own set-up.
Thanks mud, as a fan of your Art and style it's cool to hear your comments. Next on the list is to polish the cam cover, tranny side cover etc... like you did on the mudGlide. (excellent step by step how to posted by mud)

good story alk
yessir now that you mention birthdaze.
around 64 65 I asked my mother if I could get a sickle for my birthday
she said
*I already gave you your 1st birthday
no way I'm giving you your last one*
so I asked the old man if he'd get me one
he said
*I'll get you a job*
so he did, take home was 88 bux a week at 2.49/hr
guess that works out to about 3 months - march or april
shoulda probably waited a couple more months and bought a new one
Sportsters were around 1500 on the ShowRoom floor.
I got the 64 model for an even K
