If its looks go for the VH Big Radius 2-2 or the louder Vh Short Shots.
If it is a solid sound with more on the performance end look at your 2-1 pipes such as Thunderheader, D&D Fatcat and Borzilla or the Vh Big Radius 2-1. The 2-1 exhaust isnt as "loud" as the 2-2 and usually a bit throatier than a 2-2 exhaust.

If you do the slip ons now, you will later wish that you would of installed the full exhaust instead. So in the long run doing the complete system now may actually save you money.

As for the emissions in Cali.....I am more than positive that you would be one of THOUSANDS of riders who have changed their exhaust to be no longer "compliant" with the California regulations but I live in Washington so I cant say for sure.

I have a set of the SEII's (old style) that I'm ready to part with. They are the baloney cut. I always thought they had just the right amount of bark for a slip-on. It'd be sad to see them go but hey....I'm not going back after putting my thunderheader on. You can listen to them here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9kug2sX0Is

Yes, thats me in the vid. The second half with the seII's is at 6:30am. I had just gotten home from work and put them on. My neighbors LOVED me.

Cycleshack makes some good slip-ons, meaning the sound is great and I've not noticed any difference in power or torque from my '09 FXD mufflers. The one *bad* thing about Cycleshacks (at least the ones I have now) is that I've only had them for 2 weeks (bought off eBay) and found a rust spot (about half the size of a dime) and a discoloration spot (about the circumference of a small coffee cup rim). Kinda bummed me out, pretty cheap chrome job on them.

So, my advice would be to save the money and buy a little more reputable and forget trying to get by on the 'cheap' (I don't have a lot of choice since I live on disability, I just do what I can and this was my first mistake, the Cycleshack slip-ons. I got them from AmericanClassicMotors on eBay, IIRR).

Rush Slip Ons are the way to go in my opinion, cheaper and look great. Even come in black now, so just depends on what you are looking for. Everyone is always so gung-ho about spending a million dollars on vance and hines, but slip ons, not necessarily rush, are cheaper and still give off that great harley sound.

I went with the SEII slip ons. The newer, not-so-loud versions. For me they provide the perfect volume and tone. They are not rip your face off **** off your neighbors loud. But they do provide more rumble and punch than the stockers. After the install I immediately noticed a difference in the tone, not so much the volume,(although it was louder but not by much). The tone and punch of the pipes is definitely more "gutsy". I also noticed that the pipes got louder after they were on the bike for about 1k miles, perhaps the packing loosened up.

You will notice the difference in tone and punch especially during acceleration during roll on of the throttle. I like the look and finish of the pipes, and I didnt have to do anything else to the bike regarding ac, or pc3, or remap. I live in a town house and having loud-as-hell-pipes doesnt seem like the neighborly thing to do. I have gotten compliments on long group rides from others who say the bike sounds tough without being ratty, or outrageously irritating, however none of the guys I ride with have very loud bikes to be honest.

Good luck with your choice.

Tom

Some people buy some slip ons and are happy with it. I went thru two sets of them, changed baffles around several times, messed some up trying to mod them, then bought some "cheap" pipes, then some that were a little better quality, then finally said screw it and went out and bought some V&H Big Radius.

It would have been a lot cheaper if I had just went for the $600 V&H right from the start and not waisted a lot of my time.

Just something to consider.

Good lookin bike there 054. Really like that color.

I would say get a 2-1. Looks, sound, power. You can have it all.
