root beer would be awesome! takes alot of layering to get that though... hot rod flats have a TON of great paints that are super easy to work with... great for first timers... and have a great metalic selection that would really set that sucker off! the whole kit is cheap man! you can get a harbor freight HVP gun and a new nozzel and shoot away! super easy paint to work with... you can even shoot it in rattle can if you are comfortable wiht that and then have a good stage 2 clear laid on it at a body shop! i have done that MANY times when some buddies did some crazy grafiti work on their tanks and wanted to keep it clean and protect it from gas.
here is where you can order the paint http://www.tcpglobal.com/Restorationshop/
+1 on TCP global, I have ordered from them numerous times, always prompt and fair pricing. Color is a tough one, I've been practicing on my front fender, before I do the rest of the bike, I've painted the fender three times now with different colors and different color pinstripes, and removed them all, started with a live flame, then an old school hot-rod flame, then a shaded pattern from chrome yellow to a hot rod red with 3 different Kandies on top and a little pearl, did not like those, my last attempt was a traditional hot rod flame with live flame inside with process blue as the pinstripe color, I think this one is a keeper. I use a catalyzed urethane on top when it's all done(the one I use is 2K speed urethane KC-210 clear high performance voc compliant, I like this one because you can wet sand and polish in 8 hrs and it achieves full cure in 7 days) Anyway good luck and and if you get stuck on a step, help is a click away. I want my bike to stand out in a crowd, I think you do too!
I like the silver look for the front. I didn't know it was stripped. It looks different than what everyone has. Like a knife lead in before the handle. GL. Chose wisely.
I decided on a blue metalic. I can't remember the name right off but as we were looking at colors three of us gravitated to it and I figured that was a go. I have a gun that my brother and I bought from a guy at work. He's and old painter fron the days of vans with murals and crazy paint jobs. He said he would be happy to help if I make a mess.
I went to lay on the primer and realized my primer gun doesn't exist (realized I shouldn't used the gun we bought) so I will borrow one from a friend. To top it all off my regulator on the compressor took a dump on me so I need a new one. Every thing else is done and I have been riding it with the original tank and rear fender jst so i can get it out.
