I posted this in the new members forum.

I am looking to buy my first Harley. I found a 1997 Lowrider convertible with bags and windshield. The ad says they have the books and manuals to go with the bike. The lady that I talked to said that her husband bought it new and took very good care it.

What would be a fair price for the bike if is in as good of condition as advertised? What should I look for when I look at the bike?

What are the pros and cons of a dyna and/or softail?

Every bike has its pros and cons depending many things,, first thing , take your time there are alot of bikes for sale,, check with a dealer on price, check out nada.com and look on the internet for what similar bikes are selling for. go to dealers to try out a dyna or and a softail... talk to as many people as you can, and maybe have a mech. check it out Good Luck!!!!!!!!

The 97's have the EVO engine, 1340 cc, and I believe they were rigid mounted to the frame. No rubber engine mounts, I could be wrong. Give a dealer a call and ask them to give a blue book value for the bike. A lot of dealers are shying away from working on bikes 10 years old or older, do you know of any independently (indy) owned motorcycle shops in your area?
