I put one on my 2000 FXDX. Fit like a glove. Kept the original jet and the bike runs great. The instructions talked about possibly having to grind some of the fins to make it fit, but I didn't have to modify anything.
cool deal I got one off ebay a while back for CHEAP so I had to get it and was gonna install soon - did you hear about the jet kit that american rider recommends? i was thinking of going with that as well
No, I haven't heard about the American Rider kit. I bought my bike from a salvage yard - was in a bad wreck. The tank was ripped open, caught on fire and the stock carb was melted. So I don't have anything to compare the performance to. All I know is it runs great!
I put one on my Dyna on tuesday. Fit perfect. Can't give you much advice on tuning other than get/read the manual. I just took my bike to get it dyno tuned.
If you need/want parts for it. Jets, needles ect. call Fox Dist. in St. Charles IL this guy really knows his Mikuni's. He is local for me, but his prices are very reasonable. I know 90% of his business is phone orders.
its well worth it.the hsr42 i belive is the holy grain(for the money) for v-twin carbs.it is night and day difference from a stock cv to the mikuni.some say you can tune a cv really well but its still not a flatside carb like the hsr,but thats my two cents
very little if any difference in hp,or torque on dyno, what you can feel is near instant throttle response as compared with the cv..many people associate this with more power..best way to describe it is the carb is either on or off, kind of a pain when trying to gradually increase rpm.. the mik has more adjustment posibilties then cv making it easier to get spot on
