I have a question hope someone has an answer. Went to start my 06 Streetbob about a month ago and the battery was dead tried to charge it found out it was junk. Went and bought a new battery put in started right up took a ride today and the check engine light and battery light came on. Got home put a tester on the battery while it is running and it's not charging. Anyone know what I might try looking for. Any help will be appreciated.
I'm a mechanican dummy, but don't bike have alternators too? If so, then that sounds like an alternator problem. Maybe a cord is just loose, or replacement is needed?
Well it sounds like the stator, some of the '06s had problems with it destroying it's self. It's not an incredibly hard swap to do to replace the parts, but also check the connections to make sure its not a loose connection.
Here is a really good how to from the touring section:
Streetbob, had a very similar issue with my 06 Wideglide about a month ago. Bolts backed out of the compensator and tore the crap out of the stator, rotor was just free wheeling at that point. Apperantly this is a known issue with 06 and early 07 Dyna's. So common there is actually a kit with the upgraded rotor compensator (welded instead of bolted) available from Harley. I got the kit from Zanottis delivered for $220. Do you hear any strange noises coming from the front of the primary cover area?
I had a charging problem on my 03 and it was the regulator. Check that first cause it's an easy fix.
+1 on this it is an easy fix and an easy test yo see if it is the problem. Get out your OM Sam problem on my 99 sporty anf the regulator was the problem
