LMAO, Grubby Fu<ker!!!! I'm on the fence on this one. My second street bike was a crotch rocket. Dropped
it twice under slow speed maneuvers. 550 lbs turned me into the Incredible Hulk to get it up. It just scratched
up the plastic panels. Low rider is 640 lbs I believe. I know I would cry if I dropped my new bike.
Of course Harleys do hold their value. You could rent one and see how you do on it. Drop someone elses
bike, it will happen. Definitely pick the one that gives ya the best woody!

really good advice on all of these, and i have ridden a harley all my life until 1969 when i real bad wreck took me out for a while and i never got another one until last year, but with the dyna regardless of weight, you have to be careful with the power and clutch, will come up on you in the wheelie stance real easy when you dont want it to, ha ha.Also practice the deal where you let the bike follow your eyes, it really does work, and will help learning curves and about every move you make, and really learn the correct way to use your brakes, or you will skid into the back of a long black limo, or at best think you are

take the course, take the test for your license then go rent a harley and "test drive "...

I bought a bob... but after adding a windshield 2up seat and bags, hell it looks like a low rider
and research all you can I rented a dyna and a softail plus took a couple rides on the v rod
ask yourself what kind of riding your going to do
BTW what do you do in the army? my son is with the 3rd ACR

I was a new rider last year. First I took the MSF course, then bought a new WG, had it delivered to my house, and just took my time around local streets until I felt comfortable, etc.

The MSF course used 125 cc older jap bikes, flung it around like a bicycle when I was 10 years old. In no way prepared me for my new WG.

I think the only way to learn how to ride a 700 lb. Harley is to just ride it carefully.

Drill into your head:

1. Never hit the front brake with the wheel turned going slowly.

2. Keep the bars level with the ground when stopping.

3. Use both brakes.

4. Find a parking lot and pratice slipping the clutch with rpm's up.

After 2,100 miles I feel very comfortable, but everytime I get on my WG I say to myself..."be smart, be safe".

Hey, if you had a date coming up with Pam Anderson would you go out with your old highschool music teacher so you could be prepared?

I say buy the Harley you just lose sleep over, and then love it so much you are just super smart & careful.

Take the MSF course. Within a short time, rent a few different bikes. Better to rent the different "families" than several of the same. Spend some time looking, sitting and talking to riders. Buy the Harley you want. Just don't go for very long after the course without riding.

When I got back into riding in 2001, I bought a 750. This Dyna reminds me of the 750 with more power. They are sweet handlers. Very, very nimble. You can handle either the Bob or LR. Go for it. Take the MSF course, and you will never regret it. Good Luck.

as far as being able to handle a harley... like everyone said ride safe, ride smart. take the msf coarse and learn the basics.. my first bike was a honda shadow, nice easy bike to ride but i wasn't happy, just not enough power and out grew it before the end of my fist season, lost my shirt on the trade, should of went with what i wanted first. as far as th low rider and bob differnces, the bob is the best bang for the buck, the low rider has more chrome, a factory passenger seat and i think more rake. the only major difference cosmetically is the handle bar. if you like the chrome and hand placement an th LR go for that, if you like the blacked out two fists in the wind bad boy attitude go for the bob. i liked a mix of both. i went with the bob and put some chrome on it. still think i saved few bucks too. go with whatever is most comfortable and give you the biggest woody! good luck.

I wouldn't be so quick to blow off a Sportster, they are definately not beginners bike or girls bike. Next to a Street Rod a 1200R Sporty is the fastest, lightest and best handleing bike Harley makes. With your size it should fit you like a glove and after you gain experiance and add a stage one air cleaner and pipes will flat sh*t and git down the road.

I think the Dyna street bob is more balanced and easier to ride then the Sporty I traded in . Take the Bike Course. THey provide a bike. If your balance is good and you feel ok about riding after the course, go to your Harley dealer and test ride the ones you like.

But either one (Low Rider or Street Bob), take the MSF Course.

Practice in a parking lot until you feel comfortable with the weight, balance, etc., and then ride carefully!!!

You'll do just fine.
