Take the MSF course, see you handle the ride they put you on and then decide.
The rest is up to whatever happens to float yer boat.
We all ride what we ride because we have little quirks and personal preferences about our bikes.
Dynas are super nimble, super responsive and will generally out ride and out corner just about anything HD puts out [yes, yes, that is my opinion but it is based on my own road earned knowledge and the images of my friends on their own HD bikes in my mirrors].
Well,.... I understand your nervousness. My new Superglide will be in soon and the closer my delivery date gets here my excitement starts to mix a little more each day with nervousness. I have owned a few crotch rockets, but havent owned a bike in appx 9 years or so and the last time that I rode a bike was a couple of years ago on my buddy's big metric cruiser. So,... while I am positive that the power of the Dyna will not be more than I can handle, I'm sure I will be nervous until I knock the rust off of my motorcycle skills. I would say that the best advise for you would be to take the MSF course and to then just go ahead and buy the bike that you want and then pick a time and place, of your choice, and practice riding, preferably in a more isolated area. I'm pretty fortunate that we have several miles of private roads where I work, that I can get used to my bike, that are closed to the public.
Bottom line: If you can afford a Harley,..........get a Harley otherwise you will regret not getting it, and definately take the MSF class.
