I'm fixin' to do my 5000 mile service (got a little too happy and it's actually the 5436 mile service , but anyway...).
I went out and took the air cleaner cover off and all, just to get a look at it. It looks to be a paper element inside the wire mesh. Is/are these air cleaners okay to simply clean in some soapy water and let air dry, or are they meant to be replaced at each specified service? Seems an awful lot of metal on the thing would make it expensive to replace every service time (at least for dirt poor suckers like me, heh).
Well you can get the K&N performance type air cleaners I believe. Have to clean them and then condition again after cleaning and drying. I have them on my car, but have not looked into them on the bike yet.
