I've heard this several times on this board. TORX bits are generally better for for high torque applications, presuming the metal is harder as it has a greater bit to head surface area contact. The down side is that TORX was originally designed for the robotic car manufacturing process where they can quickly be fastened to an exact spec. For example this means that a robot can get a TORX bit to 100ft/lb nearly instantly with out jamming the bit to the head or jumping.

However if you go slightly beyond the rating for the bolt or you aren't robot precise it may strip.

Personally I like the TORX bits over hex, but some of the HD ones seem soft for the application.

unless you shop at walmart and pick up a stanley torx set for your socket wrench. For 19 bucks I got all the torx bits I need and have never stripped a torx bolt.

Same thing with the Kobalt set from Lowes, plus they have a life time warranty.

I've had my fair share of strippin' the damn torx head bolts too...I bought a set of torx sockets from Sears and didn't pay attention to the sizes...no T27 in the set...they don't sell a T27 socket seperately at Sears, so I bought a Craftsman T27 screw driver....what a PIA. To buy their torx socket set w/the T27 included, it's another $39.95.

How about throw a list together of the sizes, etc. If I could get rid of those damn torx I'd do it in a heartbeat. Besides the wrenches take up too much room in my toolbag.

Makes you wonder if the T27 is some sort of holy grail at those prices and scarceness.
