Default Running lean?

Alright, to start with when i bought my bike I had these items done.....
Python slip ons put on
stage 1 air cleaner kit
screamin eagle efi race tuner
"custom" as the dealer calls it download done, apparently the efi race tuner takes custom tunes and not stage 1, stage 2, etc

I installed vance and hines shortshots last night and was told by several people that since i have already had a tune done that these SHOULD be a plug and play.

Started it up and everything seemed to be ok, let it run for a few min then shut it off. It did not start well at all the second time, i had to throttle it and it finally started. Now the bike starts perfecly fine with no issues.

My question comes into as I used to have a "high decible pop" with the slip ons that is now gone and after going for a 10 mile ride to check everything out the pipes are crackling and poping for a few min after I shut it off, I was told this could mean its running to hot. I havent checked the plugs yet, still too warm.

Sorry this is so dragged out but I want to give good info for good feedback .

Could the bike be running to lean now? what is the best way to tell?
Or the obvious, the dealer said for $40.00 they would dyno it and see where it is at. Is this my best bet?

Still cant justify spending $350.00 to have my bike re-tuned

THANKS!!

My SB always crackles when I shut it off. I've had my V&H pipes on for a while now without any problems.

All my bikes have done the popping sound after shutoff. If you run your bike at night, a red glowing pipe near the head is a good sign you are running lean. You could always just pull a plug and check them out.

plugs won't tell you anything. I would have a dyno run done to see where you are at. For the 40 bucks you can find out if you are lean, where you are lean, and then can determine if you would like to get the bike retuned.

To run the best it can, you should get it retuned. think about it, Fuel moto sell the pcIII with a canned map. they ask what pipes and intake you are running. This means that different combinations of pipes and intake need to be mapped differently. Sometime their canned maps are not correct as well. You have a great tuner(sert) take advantage of all it can offer and have the bike retuned to your current configuration. Sucks spending the money, but , the bike will not live up to it's potential if you don't.

I would never go with a re map as it is to tight for my uses I use a Rev tech on my 05 Dyna and walk away from all the 09 remaps.
