Default Wide Tire and Rims

I have an 04 Low Rider and want to install the widest rear tire that I can without modifiying the swingarm. I also want new chrome rims and want to do both at the same time. What size rims for what size tires do I need to look at?

There are a couple of company's that will chrome your stock rims. Or swap them out. You can put a SE180 on the rear with out any modifications.

Remember I have an 04, are you sure that a 180 tire will fit my stock rim?

Usually you can go up 1 size and not have a problem. Is your stock tire size 150mm? How about rim size, 3.5"? The SE 180mm won't fit.

So are you saying that a 160 is as big as I can put on my stock rim if it is a 3.5?

I have an 05 and I'm cursed with the same problem. A 160 may fit, I've heard opinions both ways, but anything beyond that is a no go. If I go bigger, it's gonna be with a kit to run a 240. $$$$$$$$$

You CANNOT run a 180mm on your 04 without some extensive mods. It can be done, but it takes a lot of work and money. You have to decide if a 20mm difference is worth the cost. I ran a 160mm Metzeler on my 04 FXDL with a 18x4.25 rim without any mods whatsoever. Something to keep in mind, not all 160's are the same width...they vary slightly from brand to brand. Here's a pic of my 04 with the 18" 160.
Good luck!

JC I feel your pain bro. I have the same situation with my '03, have found that the 160 is my max without MAJOR $$$$ It will be cheaper for me to just trade up in a year or two. Let me know if you get a 160 on, brand etc. Good luck
