i shouldnt change it if you got the mount back exactly as it was,if the belt had tension pulling back on the engine it would be tough to get back in place. if you noticed the mount hole are pretty sloppy,easy to get out of line.
You're making good points, except the tension on the belt would have to overcome the rear motor mount in order to move the motor/tranny assembly that much. Surely the rear mount would keep things in alignment if all you did was replace the front mount, or just loosen the bolts on the front mount.

look at your rear mount,its a small block of very flexible rubber,plus the belts got leverage on the front sprocket. it may not be your problem,but what else could it be??? have you got more than normal vibes along with the noise???

Nope. Bike rides just like it always did. Which also seems to indicate alignment is not off. If the camber and/or toe in/toe out of the front and rear wheels is off, the bike won't track straight and will be wobbly in turns. The only symptom I've got is the noise, and I can see where the belt tension may be causing this. And I can see where allowing the engine to drop in the front and then jacking it up to get the front mount hole lined up could have affected the tension. So my bet is on belt tension as the cause of the noise. I'm going to get my indy to take a look at it this week.
Just a question: If the trans is bolted to the motor and the swingarm is hinged from the trans, how can unbolting the front, or any, mount affect belt tension? It is my assumption that the motor, trans and swingarm were in the frame as a whole assembly.
The engine changing it's attitude with respect to the swingarm will change belt tension (at least on a Dyna)...the same reason that belt tension is to be checked with the rider weight on the bike.
I just replaced the rear mount in my Dyna yesterday. With the bike upright in a chock and a jack supporting the engine I was able to easily remove all of the rear motor mount bolts. When I bolted the new mount to the frame I had to jack the rear of the engine up .375"! The swingarm remained at the same angle in relation to the ground, but not the new position of the engine. Belt tension is affected by this.
The center of rotation for the belt (at the front) is not the same as the swingarm. This will change the pitch of the belt to swingarm.... sort like unequal length a-arms on a front suspension, but not to that extreme.

If your going to take it to your indy why not have them install the TT for you? I think you'll eventually kick your self in the *** for not installing the a 3 link set up like the TT. As some one else posted, they got the noise from doing just the engine mount, so it is not the fault of the TT. You still have it, you got a great deal on it so install it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yep,i"d install it to,just looked and they are 350 bucks, i need another job to support my bike.
i dosent say on the jack for that part,i did mine on the ground. my books a 07 garys 09 may be different.
Ok. I loosened all the bolts will up on the jack and started it up,tighten back up and went for a ride, every thing is smooth now and the noise is gone but now the front heat shield on the header pipe is very close to hitting the frame tube. Maybe this should be done on the ground with the weight on the rear wheel! Your thaughts?
